One of the great benefits of NaBloPoMo is how it forces you to write, whether you want to or not. It is the imperious bitchmaster that grabs you by a place you shouldn't be grabbed by and tells you to get over yourself and just write, dammit.
Whenever I decide to take part in a monthly Blop, it's usually because I've found my writing process has become sclerotic and calcified, and I need the repetition to help re-loosen up the joints.
This current Blop has certainly helped that along, but I think that, just as bourbon is the result of several happy accidents, I may have stumbled upon a writing method that helps speed the scribbleplow: using a blogging app.
As I've said, I wrote the last two posts on my phone in the back of a car. And whenever I felt the urge to edit, I remembered what a total pain in the ass this touch-screen keyboard is, how it autocorrects and randomly capitalizes and basically thumbs its nose at whatever my fat thumbs want to do. So I said, "Screw it. What comes out, comes out."
Boom. Editor neutralized.
If you're Blopping along at home, or sitting there feeling hamstrung by your own second- and third-guessing, take heart! You, too, can unclog the thought sluices through sheer laziness. Try it at home!
