I don't normally call attention to large lapses of time between posts. We all write when we can, y'know? I have to admit, though, that writing is harder for me lately, and not just because of the bullshit excuse of "My life is so full and exciting, and Who Has The Time?" It's true that I am up to my burgeoning jowls with parenting things, like webmastering the Cub Scout Pack and coaching TwoBert's soccer team, and trying to read books without passing out after three paragraphs.
But the truth is, I have time to write. I've structured the time, sat down at the keyboard, blocked out as much of everything else as possible, but the words don't flow. In the Editor-vs.-Creator cage match that endures in my writerbrain, I think the Editor's a bit methed up.
So while my Creator is cowering in the corner, head under fists, here's a look at what's been going on.
I spend most of my days planning for the 2013 Dad 2.0 Summit, whose speaker announcements will likely start on the first of the month. I'm excited to announce that our first campaign with our title sponsor, Dove Men+Care, is a discussion of fatherhood at MetLife Stadium with Doug Flutie, who is 50 but looks like I owe him an allowance.
I'm also happy to report that Magda and I have committed to writing for When The Flames Go Up much more frequently. This last year (!) in Ann Arbor has had a profoundly salutary effect on our co-parenting, and I'm currently working on a post about how partnerships can thrive as allies without being the best of friends.
And lastly, Babble.com recently published a list of 25 Bloggers Who Are Changing the World (concurrent with last month's Social Good Summit in New York City), and I was proud to be included. However, since most of the accolade stems from the 35 G's we raised during Movember last year, I know this is absolutely a group effort. I may have organized the team, but it all wouldn't have amounted to much without the 62 other men who took part (or the 202 ass-kickers who sold out our first Dad 2.0 Summit three months later). Thanks, you magnificent ass-kickers, you!
If you'd like to join our 2012 Movember team, now's a great time. We've got two weeks until the growing starts, and I'm grateful for every upper lip we can recruit. As for me, I hope to be writing more as I grow my third Mo. While I try to slip my Editor a Xanax.
